Low Latency Unix/Linux Technical Engineer
JOB DESCRIPTION
Provides day to day maintenance and support in the ongoing development/ deployment of US CM global systems and storage hardware appliances and solutions that support proprietary, high frequency and low latency trading environments. Works primarily with the Unix/Linux team and the Low Latency Team to create and support a sound and stable architectures that will support low latency environment that meets the needs of the highly critical and time sensitive US Capital Markets businesses operating in a 24x7 environment and located in 42 global sites supporting 2800 + users worldwide.
Primary UNIX support will be focused on the Linux and Solaris Operating System technologies spanning across SUN, FUJITSU and IBM hardware equipment that are managed both in US and Canada in either owned locations or third party co-locations spanned across the globe. Ensures adequate and optimal measures are in place for the maintenance, performance and capacity management of the low latency equipment.
Aligns with Distributed Systems strategy in direct support of US CM businesses
Key Accountabilities:
Provides day to day management in the optimization, efficiency and capacity planning of low latency hardware ensuring alignment and integration of IT Infrastructure
Manages the day to day operation and maintenance of the production low latency hardware environment as follows:
Provide Level 1,2 & 3 support for all Linux server implementations within USWI including:
• Interfacing with Business Units and infrastructure teams on Linux build requirements
• Facilitating the delivery of build services from Unix Engineering and
• QA’ing the resulting UE services prior to production rollout.
• Interfacing with Business Units on Linux system forecasting & order turnaround time optimization.
• Assisting developers to successfully deploy applications onto the Linux platform
Provide Level 1 & 2 support for the Opsware & Nagios distributed platforms within USWI including:
• Expediting porting hundreds of infrastructure functions currently residing in disparate systems onto the centralized Opsware infrastructure
• QA’ing the upcoming OS patching and OS build functionality within Opsware for USWI
• Working closely with the Systems Management team to expedite the setup of Managed Objects for all NY monitoring services (Nagios, Spectrum, Mom, eHealth) thus allowing true event correlation across the USWI infrastructure and USWI applications.
• Working closely with various IT and Business Units that have expressed interest in using Opsware for software distribution as well as event logging.
Provide Level 1, 2 & 3 support with implementation services for the following Unix/Linux environments:
• Production
• Development
• QA/UAT
• Recovery/BCP
Unix Administration tasks include:
• Installation, configuration and maintenance of Unix servers on both operating systems
• Installation, configuration and maintenance of Veritas Clusters, File Systems and Volume Manager
• Diagnostics and trouble-shooting of UNIX hardware and software issues.
• OS and patch upgrades / Kernel configuration and tuning
• Work with vendors to trouble-shoot and repair the failed systems
• Unix accounts creations and maintenance
Project Support to architect, design and implement required infrastructure including:
• Application servers
• Database servers
• Network requirements
• Security access
• Storage and backup requirements
• Monitoring and support
• SLA and OLA
Provide 7 x 24 Support for the following:
• Production Unix Support
• Storage Support
Ensures thorough documentation of low latency network systems, including relevant diagrams are created and kept up-to-date environment in adherence with firm’s standards
Works with USWI and T&O to ensure an efficient operation of the low latency hardware infrastructure components in support of US CM's disaster recovery plan and participates in recovery exercises as required.
Supports and contributes to Technology and Operations initiatives

Note: Hours of business will vary dependent on the CM business needs therefore, hours outside the norm (8-4 Mon-Fri) and weekend hours will be required
Professional with minimum 5 years experience on UNIX/Linux administration / Storage Management
