JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Linux Engineer / Technical Architect role is responsible for designing and building a globally consistent, secure and highly available enterprise Linux platform capable of meeting the demands of a dynamic and demanding client base across the global environment.  This position will work closely with the Capital Markets trading businesses in order to provide the base platform for running high-frequency and low-latency trading engines.  

Primary  Responsibilities:

• Design and Build the LINUX Platform
o Interface with the application development teams and key front-office business units to collect and document requirements
o Interface with key vendors, including RedHat and IBM as well as ISVs and IHVs, to understand feature/functionality of the platform components.
o Leverage institutional and industry knowledge to design a supportable, secure, and highly performant Linux OS build for use within our client company
o Design, document and execute a test plan for the Linux environment
o Work with Opsware development team to package the distribution to allow global deployment. 
o Partner with regional operational support teams to ensure successful adoption.  Document concerns and address in patch releases.
o Monitor external sources and ensure currency of the platform
o Monitor internal use of the platform and work with regional operational support and application development teams to ensure platform remains fit-for-purpose
o As required, tune Linux sub-systems, kernel and platform internals to meet platform goals.
o Track and report on variances of the platforms in use across our client company

• Design and coordinate patch deployment process for LINUX Platform
o Partner with IT Security and Critical Incident teams to identify and address potential vulnerabilities or systemic problems with global platform
o Obtain, package, and test patches to the platform
o Partner with appropriate enterprise teams to ensure successful deployment of the patch into the production environment
o Partner with the SMAC team and regional operations teams to ensure 100% deployment

• Provide 3rd Level Support to Operational Teams for the LINUX Platform
o Partner with regional operational delivery teams to resolve significant problems prior to escalation to the vendor.
o Coordinate communication across the firm regarding support of the Linux platform
o Partner with Enterprise Systems Management team to ensure successful design, setup and management of platform monitoring tools including Nagios/Groundworks, Prognosis, eHealth and other tools
o Develop and distribute scripts and other management tools that will improve the effectiveness of the regional operational teams supporting the Linux platform.

• Provide 3rd Level Support to application development teams operating on the  LINUX Platform
o Partner with regional operational delivery teams to resolve significant application problems prior to escalation to the vendor.

• Technical Analysis, Design and Consulting
o Coordinates, with supervisor guidance, design phases for development projects, identifying, tracking and resolving technical issues.
o Runs small to medium sized projects within the LINUX platform
o Recommends technology solutions that satisfy sponsor/stakeholder needs continually exploring and assessing options for value-add for clients.
o Maintains a detailed product roadmap for the LINUX platform and dependent hardware and software components.
o Prepares detailed technical specifications in accordance with all Project Office objectives for PLC and documentation.
